The Shaggy Chic Dahlia delivers dramatic visual impact with its distinctive 8-inch lacinated blooms in soft coral pink, complemented by a lemony center that gracefully transitions between peach and pink tones as weather and growing conditions shift. This cactus-type dahlia reaches impressive heights of up to 5 feet, making it an excellent choice for creating vertical interest and commanding presence in garden displays. The sturdy plant structure supports abundant flowering throughout the season, ideal for both landscape design and cut flower arrangements.
How To Plant Dahlias
To get your dahlias started, pick a sunny spot with soil that drains well. Dig a hole, lay the tuber flat, and cover it with soil about 3 inches deep. Hold off on watering for now. Once you spot some sprouts and a few leaves, it’s time to water, but keep it gentle to prevent root rot. It’s a smart to put the stake next to the tuber at the same time of planting, so you don’t accidentally damage it later on.
As the season goes on, give your dahlias some love with fertilizer and insect sprays to help them bloom beautifully and grow strong. In the fall, dig up the roots and store them over winter.
