Allen's Tsunami Dahlia produces striking 8-inch orange blooms on vigorous plants reaching 5 feet tall, making it an impressive focal point in any garden. This variety delivers abundant flowers throughout the season, ideal for cut arrangements and landscape displays. Plant tubers in spring after frost danger passes, spacing them 18-24 inches apart in well-draining soil with full sun exposure. Stake or support taller stems as they develop. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Harvest flowers in early morning for longest vase life. Dig and store tubers indoors over winter in frost-prone climates.
How To Plant Dahlias
To get your dahlias started, pick a sunny spot with soil that drains well. Dig a hole, lay the tuber flat, and cover it with soil about 3 inches deep. Hold off on watering for now. Once you spot some sprouts and a few leaves, it’s time to water, but keep it gentle to prevent root rot. It’s a smart to put the stake next to the tuber at the same time of planting, so you don’t accidentally damage it later on.
As the season goes on, give your dahlias some love with fertilizer and insect sprays to help them bloom beautifully and grow strong. In the fall, dig up the roots and store them over winter.
