This heirloom dahlia, first documented in 1879, remains a standout performer in contemporary gardens. Delicate ivory-white pompom blooms measuring 1–2 inches across create luminous focal points throughout the season, persisting gracefully even after early frosts. The formal decorative structure and compact 4–5 foot height make it equally suited to cutting arrangements and landscape displays. A time-tested cultivar valued for its reliability, prolific flowering, and distinctive glow that enhances any dahlia collection.

How To Plant Dahlias

To get your dahlias started, pick a sunny spot with soil that drains well. Dig a hole, lay the tuber flat, and cover it with soil about 3 inches deep. Hold off on watering for now. Once you spot some sprouts and a few leaves, it’s time to water, but keep it gentle to prevent root rot. It’s a smart  to put the stake next to the tuber at the same time of planting, so you don’t accidentally damage it later on.

As the season goes on, give your dahlias some love with fertilizer and insect sprays to help them bloom beautifully and grow strong. In the fall, dig up the roots and store them over winter.
